An American in Paris... Again!

I arrived in Paris Monday at 6:30am after a pretty uneventful connection through Washington Dulles and headed straight to the office. I was able to sleep during most of the 7 hour flight, softening the onset of the dreaded jet lag. It is now 9pm and I'm writing this before going to bed.

Two of the day's highlights were reconnecting with all my old friends and co-workers at the Paris office (quite a warm welcome) and then a trip to Auchan - the French super marche - with my American co-worker Derek. This one-stop shop definitely gives super a new name with two floors and miles of aisles stocked with everything from eggs to electronics.

Shopping in a foreign language proved exciting and exhausting all at once. Very few brands were familiar. As hard as we tried to put our heads together to translate, we might as well have been shopping on the planet Mars. Biologic or bio products?? -- oh! organic, we never did figure out the mystery of low fat yogurt (guess a little fat never hurt anyone) and the piece de resistance -- don't forget to hit the weigh station with your open stock produce before heading to the register. Who knew? We had to leave bunches of bananas and apples behind because we did not have them priced and the checkout woman was not about to call for a price check in aisle neuf!. Puh!

C'est ca la vie en France. Well, only 41 more days to go. Better get used to it.:-)
